Balázs Martin

I started carving pitts (pips, stones, seeds, cores) as a self-taught artist using self-made tools in 1995. The actual design is always influenced by my recent interests and I love my own designed patterns.

Since no pit is the same, even if I wanted to carve the same design, I wouldn’t be able to create the exact same piece. I like to adjust myself to the material. Sometimes for a long time I’m just watching a pit closely and wonder what it may hide? If I’m patient and lucky enough, it will reveal itself, all I have to do, is to remove the excess layers.

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

(Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Airman’s Odyssey)
